Missouri’s unemployment rate fell sharply while nonfarm payroll employment grew by 15,000 new jobs in November, according to data released by the Missouri Department of Economic Development (DED). The state’s unemployment rate dropped to 6.1 percent in November, the lowest unemployment rate since August 2008. This is the 51st consecutive month Missouri’s rate was lower than the national unemployment rate.
Most industries experienced employment gains in November, including Educational and Health Services (5,200), Administrative, Support and Waste Management Services (3,900), Construction (2,300), Transportation, Warehousing and Utilities (1,400), Arts, Entertainment and Recreation (1,400), and Financial Activities (1,300). Year over year, nonfarm payroll employment has risen by 48,100 jobs since November 2012.
During the month of November, a number of corporations and businesses announced major expansions in Missouri, led by Grupo Antolin North America in Kansas City, Cofactor Genomics in St. Louis, BIME Analytics in Kansas City, and Nanova Biomaterials, Inc., in Columbia.
