Winter precipitation already impacting the Ozarks

(From the National Weather Service)

WINTER PRECIPITATION CONTINUES TO INCREASE THIS AFTERNOON. LIGHT
TO MODERATE SNOW HAS INCREASED ACROSS THE GREATER I-44 AND U.S. 60
CORRIDORS...AS AREAS OF SNOW AND SLEET GRADUALLY CHANGE OVER TO
JUST SNOW. ACROSS FAR SOUTHERN AND SOUTH CENTRAL MISSOURI...A MIX
OF SLEET...SNOW...AND FREEZING RAIN WILL CONTINUE THROUGH THE LATE
AFTERNOON HOURS. THE WINTRY MIX WILL CHANGE OVER TO A MIX OF SLEET
AND SNOW...AND THEN JUST ALL SNOW LATER TONIGHT.

THE INCREASE IN SNOW DURING THE AFTERNOON HOURS TODAY WILL LIKELY
RESULT IN IMPACTS TO TRAVEL DURING THE EVENING RUSH HOUR.

AFTER A LULL DURING THE EVENING HOURS...AN AREA OF WIDESPREAD
SNOW WILL MOVE ACROSS THE REGION DURING THE OVERNIGHT HOURS
TONIGHT INTO FRIDAY MORNING.

STORM TOTAL SNOW ACCUMULATIONS WILL RANGE FROM ONE TO THREE
INCHES NORTH OF I-44...TO THREE TO SIX INCHES ALONG THE I-
44 CORRIDOR. HEAVIER AMOUNTS ARE EXPECTED ACROSS SOUTHERN AND
SOUTH CENTRAL MISSOURI...WITH FOUR TO EIGHT INCHES POSSIBLE. IN
GENERAL...HEAVIER SNOW AMOUNTS WILL OCCUR THE FURTHER SOUTH THAT
ONE GOES IN MISSOURI.

IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT A VERY SHARP GRADIENT TO THE SNOWFALL IS
EXPECTED...LIKELY IN THE VICINITY OF THE I-44 CORRIDOR...
INCLUDING THE SPRINGFIELD METRO AREA. WHERE THAT GRADIENT SETS
UP...SNOW ACCUMULATION WILL LIKELY VARY BY SEVERAL INCHES OVER
JUST A FEW MILES.
