KZRG host rips Joplin Board decision to pay $95,000 to replace seats

The Joplin R-8 Board of Education's 6-1 decision to spend $95,000 to get the right colored seats into the new Joplin High School gymnasium did not sit right with KZRG Morning Newswatch host Chad Elliot or with his listeners).

Elliot just referred to the decision as "mismanagement of money," and "a travesty."

"How can the school board look at themselves?"

Elliottpointed out the apparent hypocrisy of some of the things that are said about district officials when compared to their actions. "We keep talking about Bright Futures and kids in poverty and we're going to spend $100,000 on seats?

"This is stupid. We should live with the colors."

Elliot's wrath was not directed at the entire Board of Education. "We're going to blow $100,000 in taxpayer money and Debbie Fort is the only one who voted no?"

People make claims all the time here. This one is either true or false.

Were are the pictures? Where are the invoices where are all the rest of the documents?

Yes it is true the replacement seats were bought and delivered before the meeting last night. It was all smoke and mirrors last night.

Seems silly....but then again, think about what would happen if the wrong color red was ordered for a Webb City facility?? The whole town would shut down.

I'm with Debbie on this one! Darned waste of money!!!

you would think someone would have noticed the day they were delivered to the job site let alone install them, they just did not want a delay now look what happened

The difference is... Webb City would not choose the wrong colors. Webb City has a building project going on constantly. They spend the money within budget. If Webb City says, "we need money for this project and that project." Every dime is spent on this project and that project. WC has an amazing board and administration.

Here's why it was a disaster for the clueless crew to have Debbie elected. All she has to do is ask a few questions and vote no.

Suddenly there is a risk of exposure for any behind the scenes funny business. Like the seats.

Did no one, at any time recognize that the seats weren't even remotely Joplin colors? If not, why not? If so, why did we wait till now? And why isn't this the fault of a vendor? Because someone in the administration signed off on it.

And what's this hooey about repuropsing the seats in storm shelters? Did we not already budget for seating? Why is it OK that these seats will now be the wrong colors?
It never stops.

We are being ripped off big time as taxpayers. This group of wanna be important school board members, with the exception if Mrs Fort, are a joke and should be held financially responsible for this nonsense. We need to get a handle on this before we are ripped off any more. What a joke of a board. And Shawn McGrew is actually running? How does he think anyone could vote for him when Lane Roberts and Mrs Martucci are running, they are outstanding citizens and he is a mess. Vote people, get out there and make this clown show go away.

The gym is going to be there for years and years to come, you have to fix the error. Yes, it was a giant mistake but you can't have those colored seats in the gym. Wake up people.

They knew the wrong color seats were in long before they were installed. They didn't replace them because someone signed off on the color so replacing them would have cost a lot of money. The seats should be replaced with the correct colors but NOT with tax payer money.
