The Missouri Public Service Commission has established the deadline for those wishing to intervene and participate in an electric rate case filed by The Empire District Electric Company (Empire).
Applications to intervene and participate in this case must be filed no later than September 16, 2019, with the Secretary of the Missouri Public Service Commission, P.O. Box 360, Jefferson City, Missouri 65102-0360, or by using the Commission’s Electronic Filing and Information System (EFIS) at www.psc.mo.gov .

Box 360, Jefferson City, Missouri 65102, telephone 1-800-392-4211, e-mail pscinfo@psc.mo.gov). The Office of the Public Counsel is a separate state agency that represents the general public in matters before the Commission.
On August 14, 2019, Empire filed an electric rate case with the Public Service Commission seeking to increase annual electric revenues by approximately $26.5 million. According to the filing, an average residential customer using 1,000 kWh (kilowatt-hours) of electricity a month would see electric rates increase by approximately $7.85 a month.
Empire serves approximately 155,165 electric customers in the Missouri counties of Barry, Barton, Cedar, Christian, Dade, Dallas, Greene, Hickory, Jasper, Lawrence, McDonald, Newton, Polk, St. Clair, Stone and Taney.

In 2010 our monthly average electric bill was $102.69 and in 2018 it was $169.29. Where will it stop?
good ole Empire,should have been merged years ago. but myopic Joplin elites wanted their local electric company...not result horribly overpriced electricity..State oversight is lax
Nickel & dime us to death. I have seen so many posts on facebook from people asking where to get assistance with their electric bills and struggle myself to pay for the summer months while sweating from thermostat set at 80 during the evening/night. Is Empire making a profit, you bet! How much in bonuses do the executives get? They get more & more while the medium & lower class struggle. Cap the bonuses and don't ask for increases if Empire is making money!
Yeah! Cheap electricity is a Constitutional right just like healthcare! These damn fat cats squeezing our pocketbooks for every penny they can get. The government should be running the utilities in this country and keeping those damn thieves at bay.
