Feeding tubes removed, one more week before Troy Onstott is released for outpatient care

The countdown is on as 10-year-old Troy Onstott, son of T. J. and Jill Onstott of Lamar, heads into his final week of treatment at Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City.

His mother tells the story in her latest Facebook update.

Day 37:

{Meet Troy 2.0}

One of his therapists started calling him this after one of his sessions last week. She had asked him to write his name and he started writing it with his left hand. She asked if he was left handed and he replied “well I was originally right handed but not anymore.”

We all got a good laugh and now he’s Troy 2.0...still right-handed but proudly ditched the feeding tube!

*funny side note: before his tube came out he was worried about how white his skin would be where the tape on his face had been. Until I reminded him that he hasn’t seen sun in 37 days, no need to worry about tan lines buddy. We lost our summer tans a long long time ago

God- I go to bed tonight so incredibly grateful. The miracles you’re performing in this hospital for two boys that I know of is just unbelievable. I don’t believe that we’re the only family here tonight lifting our arms up to you praising you for healing our boys.

Thank you for giving Troy just enough appetite to take in the calories needed in order to be freed from ALL his tubes today. He feels like a new person, just as anticipated.

I pray for Troy and his upcoming events: a safe outing with Mom and Dad. A successful last week of rehab before transitioning to outpatient. A successful transition. Please lord, give Troy the outpatient therapists that best fits his physical, occupational, and speech needs. And a good personality match would be a blessing too. Please lead us, as his parents, to make the right decisions for Troy as all the information handed to us can be overwhelming to say the least. You have been steadily taking our journey into your hands and running with it. Go ahead Lord, don’t stop now. I, along with many many others, trust that you won’t.

We love you with all our hearts and need you deep in our souls. Please continue to give us peace that only you can give. And keep my babies strong, we’re almost home!

It’s in your name I pray.

AMEN
