WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 9 AM THIS MORNING TO 6 PM CST FRIDAY... THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN SPRINGFIELD HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM WARNING SNOW AND SLEET...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 9 AM THIS MORNING TO 6 PM CST FRIDAY. THE WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT. * TIMING AND AREAS AFFECTED...PRECIPITATION IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN BY LATE MORNING OR EARLY AFTERNOON OVER THE SOUTHWEST CORNER OF MISSOURI AND RAPIDLY EXPAND TO THE NORTHEAST. THE PRECIPITATION MAY INITIALLY BEGIN AS A SLEET SNOW MIXTURE OR ALL SLEET BEFORE CHANGING OVER TO ALL SNOW BY THE MID TO LATE AFTERNOON. * SNOW AND SLEET ACCUMULATIONS...FIVE TO SEVEN INCHES OF SNOW WILL BE POSSIBLE IN THESE LOCATIONS FROM LATE THIS MORNING THROUGH FRIDAY AFTERNOON. * ICE ACCUMULATIONS...LITTLE OR NO ICE ACCUMULATIONS ARE EXPECTED. * WINDS AND VISIBILITY... VISIBILITY WILL DETERIORATE WITH THE MODERATE TO HEAVY SNOW BANDS AND WINDS OF 10 TO 20 MPH. * IMPACTS...SIGNIFICANT IMPACTS TO TRAVEL ARE EXPECTED ACROSS THE AREA DURING TODAYS AFTERNOON AND FRIDAY MORNINGS COMMUTE. RAPID ACCUMULATION OF SNOW IS EXPECTED AFTER THE ONSET LATER TODAY. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A WINTER STORM WARNING MEANS SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF SNOW AND SLEET ARE EXPECTED OR OCCURRING. GUSTY WINDS ARE ALSO POSSIBLE. THIS WILL MAKE TRAVEL VERY HAZARDOUS OR IMPOSSIBLE. CONSIDER TAKING A WINTER STORM KIT ALONG WITH YOU. THIS KIT SHOULD INCLUDE SUCH ITEMS AS TIRE CHAINS...BOOSTER CABLES...A FLASHLIGHT...SHOVEL...BLANKETS...EXTRA CLOTHING AND ANYTHING ELSE THAT WOULD HELP YOU SURVIVE IN CASE YOU BECOME STRANDED.
