Triple-bypass surgery for prominent defense attorney likely to delay Joplin doctor's trial on statutory rape, sodomy charges

A triple bypass surgery for Springfield lawyer Dee Wampler appears likely to postpone the scheduled August 21 trial of Joplin doctor Jeremy Goins on statutory rape and statutory sodomy charges.

A Monday, July 23, hearing is set before Judge Dean Dankelson in Jasper County Circuit Court Division II on Wampler's motion for a continuance.

Goins, 36, allegedly committed the crimes with a 16-year-old girl between February 1, 2016, and February 28, 2017.
The probable cause affidavit alleged the acts took place at locations in Joplin and Carl Junction.
