A bond reduction hearing for Jalen Vaden, charged with second degree murder and felony child abuse in connection with the death of three-year-old Jayda Kyle of Carl Junction, has been set for August 20 in Jasper County Circuit Court.
Prosecutors allege Vaden committed the abuse November 27 that led to the child's death.
Vaden's attorney, Tracey Martin, filed a motion Monday asking that her client be allowed to attend all future hearings in civilian clothes.
In her motion, Martin noted that Vaden's hearings have been "continuously covered by the media and that the coverage of Vaden in an orange Jasper County Jail jumpsuit could "jeopardize Defendant's right to a fair and impartial jury" according to the 6th and 14th amendments to the U. S. Constitution and state laws.
Martin made her motion for bond reduction July 6. Vaden is being held on $750,000 bond, with $250,000 cash-only.
