Hearing held in Jalen Vaden case, pre-trial motions continued to August 20

Pre-trial motions for Jalen Vaden, 22, Carl Junction, the accused killer of three-year-old Jayda Kyle, were continued to August 20 following a brief hearing this morning in Jasper County Circuit Court.

Vaden did not attend the hearing and was represented by his attorney Tracey Martin. No trial date has been scheduled. Initially, Martin had asked for a speedy trial, but in a motion filed April 10 withdrew the request.

Vaden is charged with second degree murder and felony child abuse for allegedly committing the abuse Nov. 30 that led to Jayda Kyle's death three days later at Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City.
