Newton County Sheriff to KOAM: Inmate's death not suicide, may be overdose-related

The death of a Newton County  Jail inmate Friday night was not a suicide and may have been drug-related, Sheriff Chris Jennings told KOAM.

Results of an autopsy conducted Sunday ruled out suicide, Jennings said, adding that the death of Forrest Stockton, 30, Noel, a former Joplin resident, may have been the result of an overdose.

Jennings told KOAM he was waiting for more information from his investigators who talked to the doctor who performed the autopsy.

The Neosho Police Department arrested Stockton, but Jennings did not offer KOAM details on the charge.

Online court records indicate Stockton's previous brushes with the law have all been minor traffic infractions.

There is so much wrong with this story. The Newton County Sheriff can't even figure out what he was detained for. He probably knows, but it just waiting to make is story line up with the autopsy.

Such a totally awesome dude. Everyone he met was a friend. How could/did this happen when he was supposed to be watched? For his death to be exactly 1 year and a day from his brother Charles' death is unfathomable. Answers are demanded.

My deepest sympathies to his family.

Too many holes in this story! I don't believe for one second that it was a drug overdose! Why did his mother have to ID him over the phone? Why didn't they have her come to the jail? Why on earth was his body sent to KC? What, they don't have a Coroner in Newton County? Let me guess, there's probably no footage of the incident? There definitely needs to be a FULL INVESTIGATION on this! His poor mama!
Justice for Forrest!

1. They send all unexplained deaths to labs outside their jurisdiction if an inmate dies in custody so you conspiracy idiots can take a breath and know that the slack jawed idiots that work in your area cant "cover anything up." 2, this guy was a junkie and a scum bag. He was not friends with everyone he knew and he rarely took care of his actual business. It's really cute how you stop having objectivity when a shit person dies not that I assume you had any to begin with. You're likely a meth head too. 3. I understand with your high school or less educations that research might be hard, but he got picked up because he failed to appear on a case that he had failed to appear on and was arrested for at least once before. They're allowed to make you see a judge when you don't comply with their directions. Grow up, all of you. The only justice for Forrest is that hes dead now and can stop being a piece of shit and a waste of space. Try reality. Not all deaths are a tragedy.

Wow! He may have been a drug user, but he was still a human being and deserves compassion, if not for him, for his family.

You are what is wrong in this world today.

7:25, so in your eyes if you're any less than perfect you deserve to die in jail? This is coming out to be someone dying over some traffic offenses. The police are not the judge, jury & executioner. I didn't know Forrest well, but I know people who did, and I've never heard a bad word about him. Many, many people love him. There needs to be an explanation for this.

I had only met him a couple times at music events and he seemed like a good kid, just going through the same troubles most young people go through in this area. The story I was told was that he ate the drugs he was carrying and that is what caused the OD. Regardless it is a sad thing for family & friends when a loved one passes. Whatever the circumstances, condolences to all who knew & loved him.

To the heartless asshat above,7:25, cleary you have NO idea of what you are talking about. You neither knew him nor do you know anything about what happened to him. But thank you for, expressing / revealing, your true self!
