Jasper woman pleads guilty, receives probation, for tampering with witness in child molestation case

A Jasper woman was placed on probation Monday after pleading guilty in Jasper County Circuit Court to a felony charge of tampering with a witness.

Under the terms of the plea agreement, Audrey Taffner, 32, was sentenced to seven years in prison, placed on supervised probation for five years, but will be required to spend 90 days in the Jasper County Jail.

Taffner allocuted to the crime, admitting to having a discussion with her husband, Jerred Taffner, former Jasper Fire Protection District chief engineer, in the Jasper County Jail April 24, 2018, in which they discussed different ways to keep the child he molested from testifying against him in court.

The conversation was being recorded by law enforcement.

Jerred Taffner pleaded guilty April 29 in Jasper County Circuit Court and was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

I question whether or not this self admitted criminal should be in a catch and release program for this offense rather than serving some state prison time. Did her pastor put in a few good words for her at the sentencing?

This is so wrong! We don’t do enough to protect the children.

WHAT KIND OF PERSON TRIES TO PROTECT A CHILD MOLESTER? Someone no better than the molester. Child abuse, molestation and porn criminals do not receive near enough consequences, especially with plea agreements.

Maybe some of it could be prevented if the criminal knew they were going to get a hard 20 years in prison. Perhaps not all of them, but some of them might think twice before they do it.

Why do women always get lesser sentences. It's not like they aren't as corrupt and devious? They want equality, give them equal jail time when they commit crimes.
Yes, I am a female.
