Joplin father who broke six-week-old baby's leg pleads guilty to amended charge

David W. Gordon, 26, Joplin, whose trial on felony child abuse charges was scheduled to begin Wednesday in Jasper County Circuit Court, pleaded guilty this morning to an amended felony charge of second degree domestic assault.

Judge Gayle Crane ordered a sentencing assessment to be conducted by the Board of Probation and Parole and be returned by August 19.

Sentencing is scheduled for 9 a.m. August 26.

Judge Crane will make on decision on whether to accept the plea arrangement between Gordon and the Jasper County Prosecuting Attorney's office until the day of sentencing, according to online court records.

The Joplin Police Department arrested Gordon after officers were called to Mercy Hospital October 7, 2017 on a child abuse report. A six-week-old baby had been brought to the hospital with "a broken leg and other injuries that were consistent with child abuse," according to a JPD news release.

Gordon is the child's father.

Here we go again. Plea deal. He broke a tiny baby’s leg for gods sake!!

Sooooooo, can’t wait to see how little time the court decides this baby’s broken leg and abuse is worth.

Especially considering another case where man shot to death in the head was only worth 15 years.

Why do they keep reducing charges on child abuse, neglect, endangerment...

It looks like you can get in more trouble for the same crimes with animals than children.

How could anyone Hurt a poor defenseless Baby or Child. This person lacks the characteristics of any type of Human Being and should be punished for his despicable actions this child should never have to endure the likes of him again. What did the Mother Know and when did show Know - - if she was any party to this heinous act - she should also be charged and neither one should ever have access to this Child.

Anyone that Hurts a Child should be sent away and punished for their crimes - NO DEALS JUDGES!!!
