Anne Sharp plan to rebuild R-8 fund balance: We'll think of something

In the board response to the state audit of the Joplin R-8 School District, C. J. Huff said he had always anticipated that the district's fund balance would dip as low as eight percent.

That is even noted in the district's strategic plan.

It seems strange that the Board of Education has a plan that says the balance will drop to eight percent and then will rise back up to 25 percent in a few years.

What is that plan?

According to Board President Anne Sharp, the plan is 'We'll think of something."

In other words, there is no plan. Taxpayers have to simply have faith that Anne Sharp and C. J. Huff will come up with a plan before the balance sinks below eight percent.

And you can't keep borrowing millions and millions and waiting for your government ship to come in.

In an interview in today's Joplin Globe, Sharp explains the plan:

"I know that we're getting together to do board goals, and one goal will align with our (strategic plan) to build our fund balances. That's a discussion the board needs to have and say where is the money going."

In other words, Anne Sharp doesn't have the slightest idea what she is talking about.

I feel quite sure they will THINK of a property tax increase.

Is there still a public meeting planned for this afternoon. If so, then someone with common sense can tell them to quit their crazy spending if they want to replenish their reserves. But what do I know?

You mean selling naming rights hasn't gotten it done? Didn't you hire some full-time people to work on all of this massive fundraising? Gee, what if those salaries had just been used for, oh say, expenses, would that have helped? Toss in the salaries for all the other nonessential personnel CJ has hired and you have the problem partially met. That was a fraction of a second's worth of thinking, and I don't get paid nearly 200 grand a year.

If you don't have a plan by now, President Sharp, you are never, ever going to get one. Step aside, please, and let some thinking, rational adults take over. You and Captain Underpants can ride off into the sunset.

"Taxes go up, taxes go down. Never a miscommunication. You can’t explain that. You can’t explain why the taxes go up"

So NOW they are going to get a plan. Too little too late losers! A tax will be soundly voted against because you people knew better and the buck needs to stop with you. Better get to mowing lawns and washing dishes board , you have a bill to pay.

The plan is to try to get a bond passed. They were talking about putting out positive things about the school to improve its image at the beginning of the year because they were going to put together a bond issue soon.

"""I’m also grateful for the huge safety net I have beneath me. Let me repeat that: I am so outrageously grateful for the fact that I will never end up homeless, that I can afford to have a job I love, that I don’t have student loans. Money buys me freedom from stress and worry"""

Then why does she look soooo old, tired and stressed??
