Missouri Governor Michael L. Parson on Thursday named Kim Bailey and Dr. Don Claycomb to the State Board of Education. They will begin service on the board immediately as the sixth and seventh members of the eight-person board.
Bailey shifts from one board of education to another, as the Raymore resident most recently served as the president of the Raymore-Peculiar R-II school board. She is a licensed mental health professional and trauma specialist and is an approved supervisor through the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists. From 2008-2015, Bailey served as the Dean of Women for Calvary Bible College and Theological Seminary in Kansas City and has since worked as a private practice therapist in Raymore.
Bailey earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia. She holds a master’s degree from Friends University in Wichita, Kan.
Claycomb retired as president of State Technical College of Missouri in June 2016 and resides in Linn. His background also includes work with the State Council on Vocational Education and the educator preparation program at the University of Missouri-Columbia. He was the founding teacher of the agriculture program at Trenton Junior College and taught high school agriculture. In 2015, Claycomb was selected as a DESE “Pioneer in Education,” an honor bestowed upon individuals who have made significant contributions to education in the state of Missouri.
Claycomb earned his bachelor’s degree and his doctorate from the University of Missouri-Columbia. He holds a master’s degree from Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville.
“We appreciate Governor Parson’s continued focus on filling the open seats on the State Board of Education,” said interim Commissioner of Elementary and Secondary Education Dr. Roger Dorson. “Ms. Bailey and Dr. Claycomb bring experiences to the State Board that will serve the students of Missouri well.”
The appointments of Bailey and Claycomb are subject to confirmation by the Missouri Senate. The next scheduled meeting of the State Board of Education is September 18 in Jefferson City.
