Jalen Vaden trial date set, judge rejects bond reduction motion

The jury trial for Jalen Vaden, 22, Carl Junction, the accused killer of three-year-old Jayda Kyle of Carl Junction, is scheduled to begin April 15 and is expected to last 10 days.

Pre-trial motions will be heard 9 a.m. April 1.

Jasper County Circuit Court Judge David Mouton set the trial date Monday and also rejected a motion by Vaden's attorney, Tracey Martin, to lower Vaden's bond.

Vaden is being held in the Jasper County Jail on a $750,000 bond with a requirement that at least $250,000 be paid in cash.

Jayda Kyle died December 1 at Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, three days after she was hospitalized after abuse that took place at her home at 405 Meadow Lake in Carl Junction.
