Thanks for helping Turner Report/Inside Joplin grow, plus this week's most visited posts

Many of you have supported the Turner Report/Inside Joplin blogs both financially and through word of mouth and I don't tell you often enough how much I appreciate it.

The support has enabled me to increase coverage of this area and the regional focus is obvious from looking at the top posts this week.

The most visited Turner Report posts include stories from Joplin, McDonald County, Lamar, Sarcoxie and Jasper while Inside Joplin has posts from Joplin, Webb City and Seneca.

Inside Joplin Obituaries and Inside Pittsburg Obituaries continue to provide free obituaries of people from this area, people who used to live in this area and people whose survivors live in the counties that are covered in these blogs. Some of you have told me you see obituaries on these blogs that they had not seen anywhere else.

Readership continues to increase and has been on a steady rise over the past eight years, beginning with the Turner Report coverage of the May 22, 2011 Joplin Tornado and then for the six years following the creation of Inside Joplin and Inside Joplin Obituaries.

Again, thanks to those of you who have taken subscriptions or made contributions. I try every day to live up to the faith you have shown in me. Though it is only a small number who have contributed, it has made a big difference.

Those of you who haven't made a contribution and want to show your support for the Turner Report/Inside Joplin blogs can do so at at the PayPal buttons below or by sending your contribution to Randy Turner, 2306 E. 8th, Apt. A, Joplin, MO. It can be amount, large or small.

For those who are not inclined to pay for something that you can access without paying for it, there are other ways you can help.

Like the Inside Joplin Facebook page- I am close to hitting Facebook's limit of 5,000 friends on my personal page, but there is no limit on those who can support the Inside Joplin Facebook page.. That offers access to every post made on any of my blogs.

Tell me what you would like to see- Since my days at the Lamar Democrat and Carthage Press, I have always sought reader input and while I do not act on all suggestions, many times I have received and implemented great ideas that readers have suggested.

Share posts you think are worth sharing- Many of you already do this. If you think a particular post might interest your friends, consider sharing it. Despite the increasing readership, which numbers in the thousands every day, there are still a lot of people who have never heard of the Turner Report or Inside Joplin and have no idea that there is a website that offers free obituaries.

Take a shot at writing a regular column or submitting a one-shot column- I am fortunate to have weekly contributions from Nancy Hughes, Kim Frencken and Paul Richardson and was looking forward to a weekly column from David L. Hargroder, who tragically died shortly after his second column was published. Lively, thought-provoking columns, whether they be on issues, events, local history or anything else you can think of help drive readership and make for excellent local content.

Send news tips- Some of the best posts on the Turner Report have come from reader tips. Examples of that are the tips I received about the embezzling that took place in the Jasper R-5 School District long before arrests were made and district officials released a statement and a number of people who contacted me about a certain young man from Carthage who kept getting charged with armed robbery then having the charges dropped. That led me in a number of directions including the series of posts I have written about plea bargains, and a side trip into questionable campaign contributions to Jasper County Circuit Court Judge Dean Dankelson. You can send me tips in private Facebook messages or e-mailing me at rturner229@hotmail.com

I have always considered it a privilege to be able to report the news and offer commentary and your contributions, whether financial or otherwise, play a key role in helping me continue.
