Graves: The wall is our first line of defense- We must build it now

(From Sixth District Congressman Sam Graves)

The definition of a crime is “an illegal act or activity.” Entering and staying in our country without going through the proper procedures is a crime. That’s why we call it “illegal” immigration – because it isn’t legal!

The events of this week are a reminder that the cost of illegal immigration continues to rise on multiple levels – even costing innocent lives.

We’ve seen this too many times now. Someone comes here illegally and commits a crime like murder or rape or kidnapping. What gets obscured by the heinous act is the fact that that individual is already committing a crime just by being here. The crime perpetrated by that criminal would potentially never be committed in our country were we to strengthen and enforce our immigration laws.

I’ve always believed that a wall must be built on the border. It’s our first line of defense. We must build it now.

Both Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) must be given the tools and support necessary to do their job. With a wall in place, our Border Patrol could more easily do their jobs and stop illegals before they get further into the country.

ICE, an agency that continues to take flak from those who support law-breakers, needs to be able to find, apprehend, and deport those who are here illegally. Earlier this month, a van-load of illegals was apprehended by police near St. Louis. ICE investigated and discovered that nine of those individuals had already been previously deported, some just earlier this year! Obviously, we need to do more before they make it across the border.

Not only that, but we should also take away any potential benefit of illegally crossing the border.
Our law enforcement does an incredible job. We must empower them to continue to do their job. Cities that politicize this issue and operate as “sanctuary cities” must pay a price. We must also make sure that those who employ people are only employing those who are legally allowed to work. We do have a system in place; however, there is no doubt that it needs to be even more stringent.

Given the events of this week, I think it’s important to reiterate that we must do everything in our power to eradicate illegal immigration. A strong legal immigration system is the best deterrent to illegal immigration. It’s really hard to stomach someone who isn’t supposed to be here murdering someone who should be here. Each time it happens, it’s just another reminder that this problem needs to be addressed sooner rather than later.

We’ve got to have the Wall, for illegals, drug, human smuggling, and more. This morning a terrorist hit Paris.

Who is going to pay for this wall Graves? If you will remember, Trump said Mexico will pay for it. Where is your plan to replace healthcare Graves? If you will remember, Trump said that would be easy and we would have the best and least expensive health care. What is your opinion on the SPACE FORCE? Do you plan to gut Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid to pay for that too? If you will remember, Trump said that he would never touch Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. Uh oh. Guess we can kiss those goodbye.

IOKIYAR!!!

Rivera has lived in Iowa for four to seven years, working at Yarrabee Farms, a Brooklyn, Iowa-area farm owned by several family members, including brothers Eric, Dane and Craig Lang. Craig Lang, a prominent Iowa Republican, verified that Rivera is in Iowa legally, according to Richards' motion.

"Craig Lang supports Cristhian’s right to be in this jurisdiction and for the government to support any other idea of status publicly flies in the face of such statement," Richards wrote. "Cristhian deserves the court’s protection as to his characterization before a jury pool."

Yarrabee Farms, Rivera’s employer, issued a statement Tuesday night saying Rivera was vetted through the government's E-Verify system. However, a government archive does not indicate the Brooklyn, Iowa, farm as a participating member of the system.

On Wednesday, officials from the farm acknowledged they did not use the E-Verify system and that Rivera gave them false information.

Harvey, you've yet to address the fact that the wall is useless. How will the wall stop those tunnelling under? How will it stop those that come by sea? The wall is nothing but a move to waste money in a show of Trumps ego and ignorance.

So when they try to sneak in after crossing the Atlantic Ocean from France the wall will stop them?

The family claimed they ran a background check.

Funny, that's the first defense of ever knowing if someone is illegal or not.

But hey they are Republicans so there's that.

This senseless murder is being politicized by the Republican party to pass a wall that will never ever be built.

Oh, in the end, his attorney claims he was legal. So what difference does it make now? It just shows the shameless promotion of hate towards anyone of color by the Republican party at the time the family of Mollie has begged politicians not to drag their dead child in their hate.

Did you forget that the family who hired him was a Republicans, I guess the facts don't matter much when you can slander people and crush a family at the hardest time of their lives.

If the wall actually gets built--and no, it hasn't been started--I'm buying stock in tunnel construction building materials. That's a pretty nifty tunnel they've found recently under the old KFC in Arizona that leads under the border to the bedroom of a house in Mexico.

Following quote from Harvey:

Again Harvey. Show links to your alternative facts and for God's sake, learn to edit or at least spell check your own posts. Your ifnorance is showing.

(Some of you will get the ifnorance joke. Another of Harvey's misspelled words.)

Can someone please post why the wall is a bad idea? I don’t mean throw out snarky comments, I mean logical reasons. While not a Trump fan, I can’t think of a reason against it, well except maybe for cost. But, then again, I think a lot of money is spent dealing with illegals in one way or another.

Here's an article from, of all places, the Cato Institute explaining why the wall is a bad idea: https://www.cato.org/publications/commentary/why-wall-wont-work.

why should all the border states get a wall and not Missouri?

What if we were to get Uncle Sam to build us some walls around some of our schools?

Maybe we could get walls around some strip malls and the car dealers too?

If gated communities are a good thing for well to do folks why can't we all have walls?

Anonymous said...

809... what? Let's for a second pretend that you understand the difference between a gated community and a sovereign country's boarders.
Ok... why would a shopping mall need a wall around it? After you answer that, then you stop pretending to understand the difference between a gated community and a sovereign country's boarders, because it is painfully obvious that you don't have a clue.

"Look at Canada as well?" Why stop there Harvey? Why not have a Pacific, Atlantic and Gulf Wall too? Why don't you just volunteer your time to go build them? That way, you could serve your country proudly by upholding your bigoted racist beliefs and get a brownie point with your feckless orange Commandant-In-Thief. But, again, please remember to build these walls from the other side and DO NOT put any doors in them. How long can you tread water?

Mr. Graves, you can be absolutely assured you will NOT have my vote. The wall is a waste of money. Seems to me GOP enjoys wasting money lately. I once was a GOP fan. Once. Was. Blue wave!

Anonymous 12:33, I serve undocumented people. The wall is a waste of money. The people I serve are not rapist, drug dealers, thugs, whatever else they have been called by our great leader. These people ran for their lives and were given the run around about amnesty. This was before our great leader came into office. I didn't like it that these people that were running had to wait forever to be safe then and I don't like it now. Drug dealers and the likes don't come across the wall. If you have a chance, listen to some of Beto O'Rouke's ideas. He has fantastic ideas on what we can do with the problem at hand. I hope you read this and read my one and only comment not filled with snarky comments about our great leader. :-)
