KZRG commenters say the American women's soccer team is a disgrace

KZRG's latest posts are the first things that come up in my Facebook newsfeed and when it comes to the station's coverage of local news activities, I am grateful for that.

Other times, when KZRG is promoting its daily right wing talk show hosts, I zip right past it and normally, the same thing applies when it is the latest news about some investigation into something Hillary Clinton has supposedly done or the latest person who has allegedly discriminated against some conservative.

This morning, though, a post about one of the latest causes of the right- the horrible, evil American women's soccer team, caught my attention.

What is so horrible about them?

Megan Rapinoe does not like President Donald Trump and said so. She made it clear there was no way she planned to go to the White House.

That was all it took for America's team to no longer considered to be American by those who consider approval of Donald Trump to be the stamp of a good American.

Poor deluded soul that I am, I thought there would be a few more commenters who would speak up for the soccer team.

The athletes' supporters were few and far between.

The latest crime committed by the soccer team occurred during the celebration of its World Cup championship win over the Netherlands when an excited player dropped the American flag, not a good moment for the team, and Rapinoe accidentally stepped on it.

The right wing media went crazy, alleging that Rapinoe purposely stomped on the flag, obviously figuring she could not love her country or she would love President Trump.

This is the same Megan Rapinoe who has draped herself in the American flag following previous victories and has spoken about how proud she is to be an American.

To be clear, that was not a good moment for the team and should not have happened, but in the midst of a celebration of an incredible accomplishment, things do not always happen the way you, I, or the athletes themselves, would like.

KZRG's post was a link to a Daily Caller article, not exactly World Cup standard in journalism, and this is how the local Facebook commenters responded:

Shameful! Will never watch or support woman’s soccer again

Stupid f----ng bitches! Why play for the USA if you hate it they should be kicked off the team
(Note: the comment on the Facebook page did not have those letters removed.)

If they hate this country so much why the hell don't they just pick a country and move their ungrateful asses there????

well by mom always said trash is trash no matter how you say it

Ridiculous! Should be ashamed of their selves!

These worthless athletes don’t represent me and this is why I dint watch one second of the World Cup

They should be careful when they pose like that, their d--ks might fall out of their shorts. (Again, the KZRG post had all of the letters in the word.)

Anyone that is playing for the U.S. team should not act like that no matter what. Sounds like they should not make next years team if they are that disrespectful.

Why does she think that is okay? If she is ashamed to be in the spot she is in at the moment, then go somewhere else! She wouldn't be in the spotlight if she didn't live in America!

PLEASE represent another country. We can definitely find someone to replace you!

I can’t understand why these um... people ? ... are on our team. They are a disgrace.

I was hoping they would lose. They are such an embarrassment.

They should probably move to a third world country. They clearly don’t appreciate what we have here in the USA

All of those comments were made by women.

Some women voiced their support for the soccer athletes, as did some men.

Some men also expressed strong opinions against the women.

The last comment above is indicative of a lot of what is wrong in our society today.

Think about those words- "They clearly don't appreciate what we have here in the USA."

Yes, they do. Sometimes I wonder if those who criticize the American soccer team and others whose views are not in lockstep with theirs appreciate what we have in this country- including the right to freedom of speech and Constitutionally-protected right of dissent.

The members of the women's soccer team put in years of hard work to capture two consecutive World Cup titles.

This country should be proud of them.

KZRGs demographic is not intelligent, rational people. KZRG is pretty good at reporting local news, but once they step out of our little hillbilly bubble it gets really nasty.

It's genuinely disgusting knowing those people are a part of this community.

Lefties are funny. On another thread one of them is bitching about thin skinned people on the right. Then you read these comments.
The one claiming that people are afraid of what they don't understand is especially ironic.

First of all your left wingers have said very vile things against conservatives well before the soccer team played!!! Second kneeling during the pledge and the anthem is disrespectful to not only our country but also to the men and elven who have fought to protect their right to say totally ignorant things. The only reason they act like they do and daddy the things they daddy is they know it will gart then attention!!! Third if they are nit proud to be living here then by all means move go be gone!!!

I was mostly disappointed in Meghan's disrespect for the flag, not her disrespect for our President. I do find it amusing that you wrote an opinion piece about the rude comments and name calling that took place against the soccer team, yet the previous "anonymous" comments are name calling, rude and disrespectful! Haha! #hypocrits

Right Whingers mangle the english language better than most ESL learners!

Yeah! Now, let's discuss the topic at hand...

Whoever said "semi-literate" was not wrong. Stay in school, kids.

@ Toni Bridgford

It should be #hypocrites, you just proved the comments that posit KZRG and the right wing nut jobs in Joplin are illiterate. These ladies on our soccer team represented the USA far better than any hillbilly could ever dream of accomplishing.

"I think I embody America and if you don't like my opinions leave" ~ Every conservative that doesn't understand America.

Sadly, the commenters remarks are not much better than what they are criticizing. This is why America is not America the Beautiful or the greatest country on earth. We look like we are illiterate even when we aren't a lot of the time. I chalk that up to laziness and the idea that whatever people want to write in whatever shorthand method they choose is okay. Schools have lowered what is acceptable to a standard that would have been appalling a generation ago. To my way of thinking the disintegration of values, morals, standards of acceptability and kindness to one another is far more disturbing than what our Women's Soccer team did or said.

You can put that shoe on the left foot too, Sunshine. The problem in this country isn't necessarily what the left or the right believe, but it is that they are so sure that the other side is wrong that there is no meeting in the middle or acceptance of different thoughts. 10:20's comment is the perfect example of this. Guess what 10:20, every liberal thinks the same damn thing that you credit to conservatives. Here is the truth though, both are what America is. Like it or not this country is 50/50 and any idiot that thinks that what they believe speaks for all of America is just that, an idiot.

Yup, and they absolutely hate the fact that they have been forever upstaged by outspoken women.

Kneeling during the anthem isn't inherently disrespectful to our country or the military, that would depend on the context or purpose of invoking that form of protest. Had you taken the time to enlighten yourself as to the stated purpose in this instance, you would know the intent was to protest police brutality.

I miss an "e" and that makes me illiterate! Hahaha! Ok, Mr. "Anonymous" (or Ms)!
