Neosho City Council to act on city manager's resignation Thursday

Less than a year after he was hired as Neosho city manager, it appears Leland Butcher is ready to hit the road.

Neosho city officials did not offer specifics on when Butcher submitted his resignation letter, but said it will be discussed during a special meeting 7 p.m. Thursday.

The following official statement was issued:

The City of Neosho has received a resignation letter from City Manager Leland Butcher.

On Thursday evening, at a special council meeting, along with discussing the city's health care plan, the city council will also act on acceptance or rejection of the resignation.

The Neosho post was the first time Butcher, who came to Neosho from Bentonville, Arkansas, had been a city manager though he had two decades of public service and a master's degree in public administration.

Given the track record of bring in people from outside, how about choosing the next City Manager from within the ranks of current city employees? Neosho is still Mayberry and always will be. Let Branson and Fayetteville hire these high power individuals and let us have somebody who knows the "nuts and bolts" of Neosho.
