Death of Skateland owner, prison sentence for Jasper R-5 board secretary among top Turner Report/Inside Joplin posts for week

Two different looks at the joys of childhood top the Turner Report/Inside Joplin posts for the week.

In the case of the top post on the Inside Joplin Obituaries blog, it was the remembrance of the joy that Wes Brewer brought to young people as the owner of Skateland in Webb City.

On the other end of the spectrum, it was the joys that were taken from young people in the Jasper R-5 School District thanks to the greed and selfishness of former board of education secretary Karla Jessee (pictured), who was sentenced to two years and six months in prison for embezzling more than $145,000 from the district.

Her actions, according to school officials, forced the district to go to a four-day week and eliminated activities for the children.

Slow summer for business end of Turner Report/Inside Joplin

The Turner Report/Inside Joplin blogs have had a major slowdown recently on subscriptions and contributions.

Thanks to those of you who have helped me to continue this news operation. I have referred to it in the past as a one-man news operation, but that is not quite accurate. You readers have played a major role in the success of the blogs with your continued readership, comments, sharing of the posts, news tips and more times than I care to admit, catching mistakes I have made and letting me know so I can correct them.

You have made suggestions that have helped improve the blog, often coming up with ideas that never would have occurred to me, but that have helped the Turner Report/Inside Joplin continue to grow.

If you have not subscribed or made a recent contribution to the Turner Report/Inside Joplin, please consider doing so. If you are not in a position to do that, you can still help by sharing posts that you consider to be worthwhile, adding your comments and spreading the word about this alternative news source.

Those wishing to make a contribution or subscribe can do so at the PayPal buttons below or send your contributions, big or small, to Randy Turner, 2306 E. 8th, Apt. G, Joplin, MO 64801.

Every little bit helps.

Thanks.
