Josh Hawley: Missouri is a border state

During the Congressional delegation's trip to the Texas/Mexico border with Vice President Mike Pence Friday, Sen. Josh Hawley, R-MO, explained why Missouri is a border state despite its distance from Mexico.

"We are a border state because of the drugs that are pouring across the border, flowing into the towns and streets and homes of the people of Missouri, Hawley said.

"We are a border state because of the families that are destroyed by these drugs."

The accompanying video is from KMOV in St. Louis.

How about we focus on why there is a need for illicit drugs to come into the "border" state. There is a market that is not dispensed from the local pharmacy. Those are the ones purchased by students, preachers, athletes, moms, and dads. For a drug to become a problem, there has to be a person who makes a poor decision. How about we deal with that instead of punishing the people who need the drugs for legitimate reasons and follow the rules. That would cut the black market traffic exponentially.
