Reputed Joplin Honkies member in jail without bond after being arrested on weapons charge

Joplin Police arrested frequent flyer felon and reputed Joplin Honkey Jared Prier, 33, on a weapons charge July 14, according to Jasper County Circuit Court online records.

Though Prier was not charged with any other crimes, the probable cause statement indicates in a addition to a a handgun, officers found marijuana in the vehicle he was driving following a traffic stop.

At the time of the arrest, Prier was free on $3,000 bond on felony charges of resisting arrest, driving while revoked and assaulting a police animal following a June 22 police pursuit.

At the time of his alleged crimes Prier was on probation after being handed a seven-year prison sentence in February 2015 by Newton County Circuit Court Judge Tim Perigo for assault and abandonment of a corpse in connection with an incident in which Prier shot one man twice in the stomach, shot at a woman and abandoned the body of a third person, a crime that became evident when Prier and his co-defendant posted a photo on Facebook of themselves with the corpse.

During the investigation of that case, Newton County law enforcement noted Prier was a member of the Joplin Honkies gang, as was the dead man.

Prier's seven-year sentence came just 26 months after Perigo sentenced him to seven years in prison after Prier pleaded guilty to felony assault, then suspended the sentence and placed him on probation for five years.

During a video arraignment Wednesday on the weapons charge Prier pleaded not guilty.

Though Judge Jerry Holcomb set the bond at $1,000 cash only, Jasper County Jail records indicate Prier is being held without bond for probation violation.

A pre-trial conference is scheduled for Tuesday.

If you commit a crime while on probation, parole or out on bail/bond, why aren't you just thrown back in jail until all the crimes are sorted out.
This guy looks like someone who just needs to stay locked up.

Who are you to determine if someone needs to stay locked up? Jared is human. He's someone's son, brother, uncle but besides all that he has just made some bad decisions and got caught. Some of us are lucky enough to get away with things. I know him and he's a great guy and I believe people do change. So quit playing God and stay in your own lane. God Bless and have a great day.

He is a good guy, he just got caught? Did the thought occur that possibly good guys don't do things that will lead them to being caught?

What good guy takes a pic with a dead body and dumps it on the side of the road where a 8 year old boy discovered on his way to school? Changed that poor child's life. I bet the poor fella he was. Dumping was someone's son, brother, and dad too. That dude only got such a light sentence and his co dependent because Nathan''s mom is a good christian lady and asked the judge to have mercy on them. Still makes me cry. Probation ha for this dude, Joplin is off the chain it is disgusting.
